She studied illustration at the University of Applied Sciences for Design in Hamburg. In 2002, her thesis was awarded first prize for the best diploma thesis of the year. She organizes workshops for children all over the world. Birte Müller has been working as a freelance illustrator in Hamburg since 1999.
